This is a scanned copy of an Arabic book by the scholar Abu Zahrah. The name of the book in Arabic is "Ushul Fiqh". This article contains images of all pages. Text has been translated to English for better reading. "Ushul Fiqh" is a concise introduction to Sunni Islamic law by one of the most prolific scholars in history, Abu Zahrah ʿAbd al-Salam ibn Taymiyyah. Originally written as a letter to his son, ʿAbdallah, it has now become an essential primer on Sunni jurisprudence with over 50 prints since its publication in 1892 CE / 1203 AH. Scholars have differed over whether it is Sunni or Shafi'i fiqh mentality to be followed in its entirety, or whether portions of the text are non-Hanbali. However, for the most part, it maintains Hanbali practice and methodology throughout its pages. The book begins with a section on tafsir (Quranic exegesis), then moves on to taharah (purification) before turning to Islamic law itself. The book is divided into 21 sections, each containing multiple chapters. Chapters 1-11 deal with tafsir, chapters 12-20 contain taharah, and chapters 21-22 touch upon legal practice. It also contains proverbs (ham-mawdooat) in Arabic along with an explanation in Arabic and English. The book is published by Dar Ibn baz , Kuwait. The book was published in 1979 CE/1399AH, with a second edition printed in 1985 CE/1405AH.
